About Mid-South Gifted Academy
Built for gifted children from the beginning.
MSGA is a PreK–12 school created around a simple belief: gifted learners should not have to spend their childhood adapting to an educational model that was never designed for them.
We built something different — a school where advanced minds can keep moving, children can be deeply known, and growing up doesn’t have to happen faster just because learning does.
Why We Exist
There was no school like this for gifted children in the Memphis area.
Before MSGA, gifted children in the Memphis area could access gifted services, enrichment, or advanced opportunities — but there was no full-time school designed around how gifted learners develop and learn.
Educators and parents saw the gap. Children who could think years ahead academically were still spending much of their school day waiting, repeating material they had already mastered, or trying to fit themselves into classrooms built for a different learning pace.
MSGA was created to change that.
Gifted learners didn’t need more added to school. They needed a school built around them.
Our Story
From 17 students to a complete PreK–12 pathway.
Mid-South Gifted Academy opened in 2018 with 17 students and a vision shared by educators and parents: gifted children deserved an entire school day built around appropriate challenge, meaningful relationships, and the freedom to keep growing.
As families found MSGA, the school grew — adding grades, programs, and eventually a complete pathway from early childhood through high school.
What We Believe
A gifted child needs more than advanced work.
The right challenge changes everything.
Gifted learners don’t need more work. They need the right work — at the right pace, with enough depth and complexity to make them think, struggle productively, and keep growing.
Challenge should come from thinking more deeply, not simply doing more.
Advanced learning shouldn’t rush childhood.
A child can reason years beyond their age and still need play, movement, friendship, reassurance, creativity, and room to grow emotionally at their own pace.
We believe advanced minds and protected childhood belong together.
Children thrive when they are deeply known.
Small communities and strong relationships matter. Students learn best when teachers understand not only what they know, but how they think, what excites them, where they struggle, and when they are ready for something more.
That is why MSGA stays small by design.

MSGA is intentionally small so students can be deeply known — not only by their teachers, but by a community of adults and peers who recognize the whole child.
That makes it possible to notice when a learner is ready to move ahead, when they need support, when curiosity is taking them somewhere unexpected, and when simply having someone who understands them matters most.
Beyond Knowing
Learners become creators.
Understanding something is only the beginning. MSGA students are encouraged to ask difficult questions, investigate real problems, design solutions, collaborate, create, and share their thinking with audiences beyond the classroom.
The goal isn’t simply to know more. It is to learn what to do with what you know.
Growing a capable mind is only part of the work.
Academic growth matters. So do confidence, self-awareness, relationships, independence, resilience, and the ability to understand yourself.
Gifted children are more than their scores, their reading level, or how quickly they learn. At MSGA, we want students to leave with both the intellectual capacity to pursue ambitious ideas and the self-knowledge to build a life that is genuinely their own.

MSGA began with educators and parents who believed gifted children deserved something that did not yet exist in our community. That same conviction still shapes the school today.

Jessica co-founded MSGA and leads the school as Head of School, guiding its growth from a single rented classroom to a full PreK–12 campus — keeping the focus on gifted children at every step.
