1. Montessori Guide in Training — PreK/Kindergarten (Ages 3–6)

About Us
Mid-South Gifted Academy is a PreK–12 private school in the greater Memphis area, built specifically for gifted and academically advanced learners. With small class sizes (5:1 student-to-staff ratio), mastery-based pacing, and a community of teachers who understand how gifted children think and learn, MSGA offers an environment where advanced learners are challenged at their level while still getting to be kids. Our Montessori-based program serves our youngest learners, PreK through Kindergarten, at our campus in Collierville.
About the Role
As a Guide in Training, you’ll work alongside a lead Montessori guide in a prepared 3–6 classroom environment, supporting children through their daily work cycle while building the skills and experience needed to grow into a certified Montessori guide. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves early childhood education and wants hands-on classroom experience while pursuing Montessori certification. Both full-time and part-time candidates will be considered.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Responsibilities
- Support the lead guide in maintaining a prepared, orderly classroom environment
- Observe and assist children during independent work periods
- Help with practical life, sensorial, and academic material presentations
- Foster a calm, respectful, and nurturing classroom atmosphere
- Assist with classroom care, material upkeep, and daily routines
- Communicate professionally with parents and staff
- Participate in ongoing training toward Montessori certification
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience with children ages 3–6 preferred (classroom, childcare, or related)
- Open to candidates pursuing Montessori certification
- Patient, observant, and collaborative disposition
- Experience with or interest in working with gifted or advanced learners a plus
- Must be able to pass a background check
2. Substitute Teacher (PK–12)

Mid-South Gifted Academy is the only full-time school in the Greater Memphis area dedicated to gifted and academically advanced students. Our students are years ahead in the classroom and right on time as kids. We give them room to learn at their pace, follow their passions, and turn ideas into action.
About the Role
You’ll step into PK–12 classrooms across our two buildings: Discovery School (PreK–4) and School of Innovation & Design (Grades 5–12). Our students ask deep questions, finish fast, and will politely challenge you on the details. You don’t need every answer. You do need to stay calm, curious, and ready with a plan when the plan runs out.
- Teach from the classroom teacher’s plans and keep the day on schedule
- Set clear expectations early and hold them with warmth
- Keep early finishers going with the extension work teachers leave, or a good question of your own
- Give students room for big feelings and strong opinions while keeping the class on track
- Follow MSGA’s safety, supervision, and dismissal procedures
- Leave the teacher a clear end-of-day note covering what got done, who stood out, and what needs follow-up
- Bachelor’s degree (required)
- Experience working with children in a school setting (required)
- Successful background check and fingerprinting (required)
- Interest in or experience with gifted learners (a plus)
- Humble, hungry, and people-smart. You take ownership, stay flexible, and work as part of the team.
- $125-$150/day, commensurate with experience and qualifications
- You choose which days you accept
- School hours of 7:30–3:15 for grades K-8 and 8:15-3:30 for high school. Most call-outs come by 6:30 a.m.
