Private Middle School for Gifted Students in Memphis

building strong foundations for lifelong success through private gifted education

Middle School is a Time to Grow, Not Just Get Through

Middle school should be a time of growth, discovery, and confidence—not something to simply get through.

At MSGA, students in grades 5–8 are challenged, supported, and known in a caring community that keeps families connected.

As they prepare for high school, they also build critical thinking, problem-solving, independence, and the confidence to navigate what comes next.

Common FAQs about Middle School

Why is middle school so hard for kids?

Middle school combines academic transition with early adolescence, social pressure, and identity formation, which is why many parents dread this stage. MSGA’s middle school (Design Studio, grades 5-6, and Innovation Studio, grades 7-8) is built around mentorship, advisory support, and a small community specifically to ease this transition.

SEL is instruction that helps students build self-awareness, empathy, communication, and conflict-resolution skills alongside academics. MSGA integrates SEL directly into its middle school curriculum to support students through the social changes of early adolescence.

Design thinking is a problem-solving process where students brainstorm, prototype, test, and refine solutions to real-world challenges. MSGA’s School of Innovation & Design uses design thinking across its middle school curriculum to build creative and critical-thinking skills.

Gifted children often connect best with intellectual peers who share their interests and pace of thinking. MSGA’s small, ability-grouped classes are designed to put gifted middle schoolers alongside peers who understand them, which many families cite as a key factor in their child’s social confidence.
