The Power of Student Clubs and Extracurricular Activities

Student clubs and extracurricular activities are not just add-ons at Mid-South Gifted Academy but are integral to our holistic approach to education. Through these avenues, we empower our students to explore their passions, develop leadership skills, and cultivate a lifelong love for learning.

Our small-by-design approach allows us to tailor our educational offerings to meet the unique needs and interests of each student. Central to our mission are our core values: love, empathy, integrity, leadership, teamwork, and innovation. These values serve as the compass that guides our decisions and interactions, fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment where students thrive.

One of the hallmarks of our school is the rich tapestry of student clubs and extracurricular activities we offer. With over 30 clubs spanning a wide range of interests, there is something for everyone at MSGA. From competitive sports to niche hobbies, our diverse array of clubs ensures that every student can find their passion and pursue it with enthusiasm.

Our competitive sports program includes cross country, high school swim team, flag football, middle-high school basketball, and club sports like volleyball and elementary basketball. These programs promote physical health and teamwork and instill valuable lessons in discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

In addition to sports, our school boasts a vibrant ecosystem of student-led clubs that cater to a myriad of interests. Whether it’s the strategic maneuvering of Chess Club, the imaginative storytelling of Dungeons & Dragons, or the intricate artistry of origami, our clubs provide students with opportunities to explore new passions, develop new skills, and forge lasting friendships.

Moreover, we take great pride in sponsored clubs such as Speech and Debate and VEX Robotics, which offer students platforms to hone their communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Through these clubs, students not only expand their horizons but also gain invaluable real-world experience that prepares them for success in college and beyond.

At MSGA, we also embrace the spirit of community and camaraderie through our unique House System. Students from first grade and up are sorted into one of four houses: Dreamers, Courage, Givers, and Friends. These houses serve as tight-knit communities where students collaborate, support each other, and participate in (and plan!) various events and competitions throughout the year. The highlight of the House System is winning the coveted House Cup, which incentivizes teamwork, leadership, and good sportsmanship.
